Richard Morrell Killed Unloading Logs From Truck

Richard Irwin Morrell, 37, of Browning, Schuyler County, a logger, was fatally injured while unloading logs for Casswood Hardwoods, Inc., Beardstown, about 11 o’clock Monday morning.

A log rolled off his truck and crushed him, according to Stuart Brownback, Cass County coroner. He died in Schmitt Memorial Hospital about 11:30 a.m., a short time after admittance.

Morrell was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Versailles, a son of Irwin and Helen Whited Morrell. He married Mary Fawcett in Havana in 1950.

Surviving are his parents of Frederick; his wife; two daughters, Sharon and Sheila; and four sons, Kevin, Jerry, Rickey and Jeffrey, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Margie Marcum of Clearlake Highlands, Calif., and Mrs. Jean Whitehead of Chandlerville; and two brothers, George of Bath and Gerald of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be held Thursday in Rushville.
