James H. Maxwell Dies Tuesday

James H. Maxwell, 80, lifetime Astoria area resident, died Tuesday afternoon in the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville where he had been a patient for several weeks. He suffered severe burns when his clothing caught on fire in his home here a few weeks ago.

Mr. Maxwell was born July 30, 1879, near Astoria, a son of Samuel and Sarah Bricker Maxwell. He was married to the former Eva Foster who preceded him in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Frances Bible and Mrs. Melcena Bible of Lusk, Wyo., and Mrs. Donna Newlun of Cuba; two sons, James D. of Astoria and Verle E. of Lusk, Wyo., one grandchild, two sisters, Miss Minnie Maxwell of Astoria and Mrs. Ella Snowden of Canton and three brothers, Charles and Jake of Astoria and Bert of Sturgis, Mich.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Shawgo Memorial Home with the Rev. D. Edwin Rodabaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Astoria cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
