ESTHER MAYO

Aged Lady Dies At W. A. Cain Home Friday Evening

Aunt Esther Mayo, aged 80 years, 9 months and 12 days, died Friday evening in the home of her nephew, W. A. Gain and wife, after having been in ill health for a number of weeks. She seemed to be overcoming her weakness, however, and had been up and about the house more than usual during the day. The death summons came very suddenly agt about 7:30 o’clock.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Mayo and was born near Vermont, Nov. 10, 1849. Her home was with her parents until their death about 48 years ago, after which she lived in the home of her sister Mrs. George Gain and husband for about 35 years, until they had both passed away. She then went to live with her nephew and for the past thirteen years had received the kind treatment of Mr. and Mrs. Gain.

In her earlier life she attended church and found the Christ very precious to her. She and her mother were great students of the Bible and all through her life she spent much time in reading the Bible and other religious literature. In her last illness, when visited by the pastor, she told of her trust in the Savior. Being of a quiet and timid disposition she went out in public but very little, preferring the quiet home life. It was said by one who knew her best, they she lived a good life.

She is the last of a family of eleven children, but leaves many relatives and friends, as she goes to join the host on the other side.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the home of W. A. Gain with the Rev. W. R. Seitzinger officiating. Burial in the Astoria cemetery.
