VERMONT — William Mercer was born on Nov. 10, 1826, in Chester County, Pa., and died at his home near Vermont, March 12, 1903, of paralysis of the heart. He had been ill for some time but the friends thought he was much improved, death coming rather suddenly. He came to Illinois in 1851 and was married to Miss Ann Stewart, March 23, 1856. To them three children were born. One having died several years ago and shortly after the wife was taked away. The remainder of the family and relatives have the deepest sympathy of the entire community for Mr. Mercer was an honored, respected citizen.
