William Matthews

IPAVA — Died, in Ipava, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Etta Trickey, Nov. 14, Wm. Matthews, aged 85 years. Mr. Matthews was born in Maryland in 1808 and married Miss Mary Hannum in Chester county, Pa., in 1830. They came to Illinois near Ipava in 1843 where they lived until 1877 when they moved to Ipava, Mrs. Matthews dying in 1889. A number of children were born, seven of which remain behind to mourn a father’s loss. Father Matthews was among the early settlers in our county and endured the hardships incident to the times in which he lived. Father Matthews was an honest, industrious man; kind neighbor, indulgent father and true husband. The truly worthy were never turned empty away. The funeral services were under the auspices of Rev. J. A. Herries.
