Dennis Lane

Dennis Oren Lane, 75, of Rushville died at 3:20 p.m. May 27, 2021, at his home in Rushville.

He was born June 26, 1945, in Canton, the son of Samuel and Patricia Dennis Lane. He married Jean Strong on Dec. 18, 1971, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Patricia Berei of Zephyrhills, Fla.; one son, Jason (and Patty) Lane of Rushville; one daughter, Valerie Lane of New Milton, W.V.; one sister, Linda (and Mike) Hannappel of New Bern, N.C.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Lane; and stepfather, Stephen Berei.

He graduated from Farmington High School in 1963 and then attended Spoon River College and SIU in Carbondale.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1965 and spent one and one-half years in a Navy uniform and two and one-half years in a Marine Corps uniform as a Navy Corpsman. He served in Vietnam in 1968 during the Tet Offensive. After being discharged from the service he located in Hawaii until moving back to Illinois in the fall of 1970.

Denny and Jean worked together in the photography business for over 40 years. He was the fourth generation to own and operate Lane Transfer from 1971-73, but his love of photography won out and he started Lane Photography in Farmington in 1973. In 1974, the Lane’s moved to Rushville to run Lane Photography until 2016. He was Schuyler County Coroner from 2003-15. Upon retiring in 2015 they bought a house in Zephyrhills, Fla.

He was a member of the Mascoutin Bay Longrifles, Rushville Masonic Lodge #9 A.F. and A.M., 22 Club, Rushville Moose Lodge #506, Schuyler County Shooters Club, Wednesday Men’s Golf League, Friday Mixed Quota Golf League, Professional Photographers of America, APPI, Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007, a life member of VFW Post #7315 and was a Hunter Safety Instructor for many years.

Funeral services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating. Military rites were conducted by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and a U.S. Navy honors detail.
