Cecil LasswellCecil Allen Lasswell, 61, of Smithfield died at 4:37 a.m. July 7, 2013, at Graham Hospital in Canton after a battle with cancer for six years.

He was born Sept. 21, 1951, in Canton, a son of George Leroy and Norma Irene Lafary Lasswell. He married Edie Baer on June 5, 2007, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are Sandra (Spires) Ginger, mother of his children; two daughters, Margaret Ann Hagen and Mary Alice (and Tad) Strube; one stepson, Richard (and Debbie) Baer; and one stepdaughter, Amie Whitman; four brothers, George Eugene (and Zelda) Lasswell, Norman (and Marcia) Lasswell, Dennis Michael Lasswell and Daniel Lasswell; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant daughter, Wendy Sue Lasswell.

He retired from Caterpillar on July 1, 2012. He was a pattern maker at Mapleton Foundry Plant. He worked for Caterpillar for 45 years.

He was a volunteer fireman, served on the village board and repaired vehicles out of his garage for many years in Smithfield where he lived his whole life.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend David Lafary officiating. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home.
