Richard Lafary

Richard L. Lafary, 74, of Smithfield died at 12:15 a.m. May 7, 2013, at his home.

He was born June 26, 1938, in Knoxville, a son of Raymond S. and Mary A. Brown Lafary. He married Charlotte Ford on July 6, 1957, in Smithfield. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Llyssa Lafary of Bartlett and Susan (and Carl Jackson) Lafary of Canton; one sister, Connie (and John) Potter of rural Farmington; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and three sisters.

He was an engineer for Caterpillar retiring after 40 plus years.

He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton and Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield.

He was a former Boy Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. He served on Smithfield Village Board as president, Fulton County Health Department Board and Village of Smithfield as a water operator.

Services were held Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend David Lafary officiating. Burial was in Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.
