CHARLOTTE “BABE” (PHILLIPS) LONG

Charlotte Long

Charlotte "Babe" Long, 84, of Adair died at 10:40 p.m. Oct. 2, 2011, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Colchester, a daughter of Ralph and Lulu Nall Phillips. She married George A. Long on Jan. 10, 1948, in Macomb. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1997.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Bodenhammer; one brother, Ralph Barney Phillips; and one brother in infancy, Laverne Phillips.

Surviving are one daughter, Georgia "Jody" (and Ron) Robertson of Ipava; one son, George A. Jr. (and Marjorie) Long of Table Grove; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She lived most of her life in the rural Adair area and wintered in Mission, Texas, since 1997. She helped her husband on the family farm from 1954 until 1992. She also worked at Camp Ellis as a librarian, Newberry's Department Store, Adair Grain Elevator and Leezer Insurance in Table Grove.

She was a member of Home Extension Twilighters Unit and was involved for many years in McDonough County 4-H and also served as a leader of the Adair Achievers 4-H club.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with David Long officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery west of Table Grove.
