Pierre J. Leighty, 81, of Milan, formerly of Vermont, died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa.

He was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Vermont, the son of Glen and Maratha Abenbhaty Leighty. He married Faye Spillers on March 4, 1948, in Moline. She died Dec. 10, 1983.

Surviving are one sister, Albertine "Tina" (and William) Warner of Moline; and one nephew.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

He attended the Moline Institute of Commerce.

He had been a bartender for Cross Roads Inn in Milan for 16 years, retiring in 1974.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary in East Moline, where visitation will be one hour before. Burial will be in National Cemetery Rock Island Arsenal, where military rites will be conducted by Milan American Legion Post 569.

Memorials may be made to the Voluntary Services of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa, St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
