Ora Lowe

Ora E. Lowe, 92, of Peoria, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 1995, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 7, 1903, in Canton, a son of Allen and Etta Frampton Carlin Dempsey. He married Bernice Hand on July 9, 1921. She died Jan. 30, 1925. He married Esther Anna Ziemer in Peoria. She died Aug. 14, 1994. He also was preceded in death by one son, Leo Dean; four brothers; and four sisters.

Surviving are one son, Wayne of House Springs, Mo.; four daughters, Ruth Slatyon of Lafayette, Ind., Marilyn Bartlett of Columbia, Tenn., Jane Millard of Peoria, and Hazel Harding of Canton; one brother, Ernie Lowe of Estero, Fla.; one sister, Clara Eddy of Peoria; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was a self-employed farmer, having worked in the area for a number of years and retiring in 1964. He was a former mayor of Marietta, where he owned and operated a gas station. He was also a salesman for Kent Feed in Cuba. He had been a security officer for Saint Francis Medical Center and Security Savings, retiring in 1970. He was baptized into the Christian faith in March 1995.

Graveside services were held Monday at the Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Carl Berner officiating.
