VeteranMarcus Leighty Dies In California

Marcus R. Leighty, 69, a native of Vermont, died Saturday, June 23, 1990 in Fresno, Calif.

He was born Oct. 30, 1920, a son of Henry and Marie (Rankin) Leighty in Vermont. He married Patricia Freeman in 1943. She survives.

He retired as the vice president of E.H. Fults Chemical Company in Tulare, Calif. Previously he and his family had resided in Burlington, Iowa, where he was associated with the Bonewitz Chemical Company. During World War II, Mr. Leighty served with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the White Shrine Temple, the Tulare County Shrine Club, American Legion Post 15 of Tulare, Tulare Elks Lodge, the Noon Kiwanis, the Tulare Roving Elks, and the Mobile Noble Club and the Masonic Lodge in Burlington.

Surviving are one son, Scott Leighty of San Diego; three daughters, Gail Lerner-Connghan of Roeland Park, Kan., Jo Tampas of Navato, Calif. and Kay Leighty of Irvine, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services were held June 26 at Hamilton Peers-Lorsentzen Funeral Chapel in Tulare. Interment was private.
