MARIE (HAYS) PAYNE KLOSTERMAN

Marie Klosterman

Marie Payne Klosterman, 90, of Rock Falls, died at 3:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Claremont of Lee County in Dixon.

She was born Sept. 15, 1908, in Astoria, a daughter of Frank Pierce and Madella Prather Hays. She married Henry G. Payne on Jan. 3, 1958 in Chicago. He died May 3, 1977. She later married Donald “Doc” Klosterman Sr. on Oct. 27, 1997, in Mt. Carroll. He survives.

Also surviving are two stepsons, Henry Jack Payne Jr. of Lafayette, Ind., and Donald H. Klosterman Jr. of Sterling; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

A graduate of Astoria High School and Western Illinois University, she furthered her education with advanced courses at Rosary and Concordia Colleges of River Forest, Quincy College, University of Illinois and University of Arkansas. She received a diploma from Father “Tony” Becker’s graphology course in 1969. She was an elementary school teacher for 45 years in Adams, Fulton, Cook and Schuyler counties, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Washington Second Street Methodist Church of Oak Park; Kappa Delta Pi Educational Fraternity; Retired Teachers Association of Lee County; and bowling leagues in Oak Park, Oregon and Dixon.

Services in Dixon will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Harding officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Local graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Astoria Cemetery with Pastor Gary Schultz officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
