ERNEST L. “BUD” KUNZEMAN

Ernest L. “Bud” Kunzeman, 73, of Winchester, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, 1995, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born April 18, 1922 in Morgan County, a son of Louis Jackson and Anna Margret Eilers Kunzeman. He married Lucille Pence March 17, 1942 in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Sandra) Day of Winchester and Mrs. Don (Judy) Mugrage of Ipava; two granddaughters, Leah Mugrage of Ipava and Angie Mugrage of Bloomington; four grandsons, Ken Day of Chatham, Michael Day of Winchester, David and Andy Mugrage of Ipava; four sisters, Mrs. Wilbur (Martha) Pence of Woodson, Mrs. Al (Dorothy) Houck of Carrollton, Mrs. Murrell (Doris) Taylor of Winchester, Mary McGuire Wease of Florence; and one brother, Roy Kunzeman of Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Kunzeman and one sister, Mrs. Virgil (Helen) Russwinkel.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, serving as a medic with the 35th Evacuation Hospital in Europe. He participated in the Normandy landing and the Battle of the Bulge. He received five Bronze Stars and one Silver Star for his service. He worked for the City of Winchester as a Water Plant Purification Operator before his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winchester and the American Legion Post 442.

Funeral services were held Saturday at his church by Rev. James Whistler. Burial was in Winchester City Cemetery with military rites.
