JOHN KELLEY

John Kelley

John Kelley, fifty years old, said to be the shortest man in Illinois, died recently at his home in Macomb of apoplexy. Kelley was 44 inches in height and weighed 150 pounds. He was normal physically with the exception of his legs, which accounted for his short stature. In his younger days his legs were double jointed, enabling him to move as rapidly backwards as in the natural direction. Mr. Kelley used a stepladder when harnessing his team of horses, which he frequently drove. He had many offers from circuses and traveling shows but accepted none of them.
