ERNEST W. KIRKBRIDE

Ernest Kirkbride

VERMONT — Ernest Kirkbride, one of Vermont’s respected citizens and business men, died at the St. Mary’s hospital in Galesburg, Tuesday morning at 6:00 o’clock, after a serious operation. While it was known by his relatives and a few friends that he could never be a well man again, his death came as a shock to them and to everyone. He stood the operation fine and was getting along so well that all thought he would recover sufficient to return home. He became suddenly worse during Monday night and a message was received to that effect. Dr. Parker, W. L. Derry and Lewis Kirkbride went on the midnight train and reached his bed side shortly before four o’clock, to be with Mrs. Kirkbride and the dying patient, for such was his condition on their arrival. Mr. Kirkbride was conscious to the last — knew his condition and had a few days before settled up his partnership business, so that no long process would be required to settle up a partnership estate. He passed quietly away at 6:00 o’clock, without a struggle and another of our good citizens has answered the final call. The body was brought home Tuesday evening and the funeral will be held from the residence today (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o’clock.
