MIKE KOMENLY

Mike Komenly

A dispatch from Gilchrist, a little mining town just across the border of Henry county in Mercer county, says: “A horrible death overtook Mike Komenly, a miner employed in the coal mines at Gilchrist, Saturday afternoon. He was in the act of attempting to place an empty truck on the cage at the mouth of the pit. He failed to observe that the cage was not in place, but before he could recover himself he lost his balance and was hurled headlong to the bottom of the shaft, where his lifeless body was discovered shortly afterwards by fellow workmen. The remains were terrible crushed by the impact on striking the bottom of the pit, and in being bounced from side to side against the walls in the descent. Deceased was a married man, about 40 years old.”
