David P. Jones, 79, of Rushville died at 6:50 a.m. Nov. 15, 2019, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.David P. Jones, 79, of Rushville died at 6:50 a.m. Nov. 15, 2019, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Oct. 8, 1940, in Ray, a son of Paul and Lois Trone Jones. He married Peggy Logsdon on May 10, 1959, in Virginia, Ill. She preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2003.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Allen Jones.
Surviving are two sons, Robert “Bob” Jones of Peoria and Chris (and Amanda) Jones of Rushville; four siblings, Pat Unger of Rushville, Nancy (and Gary) Armstrong of Yuma, Ariz., William R. (and Linda) Jones of Geneseo and Judy Reiche of Morris; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was a 1958 graduate of Rushville High School and received a certificate from Texas A and M University. He began farming shortly after graduating from high school. He retired from grain farming in 1983, but continued to raise and show cattle for many years. He was a meat inspector with the USDA from 1984 until his retirement in 2013.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rushville.
Services were held Tuesday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Randy McGeehon officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery.
