Marilyn JohnsonMarilyn Kay (Dohner) Johnson, 71, of Macomb died at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 7, 2017, at The Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.

She was born May 27, 1946, in Rushville, a daughter of Robert Samuel and Beulah Marie Gibble Dohner. She married Jim Taylor on Aug. 15, 1965, in Astoria. They divorced in 1985. She married William Garry Johnson on June 25, 1989, in Macomb. He survives.

Also surviving are one sister, Martha (and Lee) Fillingham of Table Grove; two brothers, David Dohner of Vermont and Mark Dohner of Ipava; two sons of husband Garry Johnson, Christopher Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Colin Johnson of Bloomington, Ind.; several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She graduated from VIT High School in Table Grove and Midstate College of Commerce in Peoria. She thoroughly enjoyed her 38-1/2 years of service to Western Illinois University as a Clerk Stenographer, Personnel Assistant and Executive Secretary to the President/Secretary to the Board of Trustees.

She served as a 30-plus year member of the McDonough County 708 Board of Directors, and during her career, she served the Western Athletic Club Board of Directors, McDonough County United Way Board of Directors, Performing Arts Society Board of Directors, Macomb Altrusa Club, Fulton/McDonough County Mental Health Center, Business and Professional Women’s Club and as co-chair of the WIU Centennial Celebration Committee. She was named in 1999 as one of the 50 Women of Western and in 2005 to be honored by the WIU Alumni Association as a Western Illinois University Honorary Alum as well as being named in 2005 by WIU students as Grand Marshal of the WIU Homecoming Parade.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at the The Grand Ballroom, Western Illinois University in the University Union, one- and one-half hours prior to a Celebration of Life service, which will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom. Pastor Barry Reed will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb. Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of arrangements.
