Dennis JohnsonDennis Ray Johnson, 63, of Littleton died at 10:15 p.m. Feb. 13, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born April 1, 1953, in Ottawa, a son of Herman D. and Ide Mae Reeser-Wilson Johnson. He married Dianne Syverson on Feb. 26, 1977, in Ottawa. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Chad Johnson of Springfield; two daughters, Robin Johnson of Rushville and Amber (and Scott) McFarland of Springfield; one brother, Edward (and Linda) Woodyer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Pat (and Dick) Handren of Elgin; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Beauford Wilson.

He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1971 and attended the University of Wisconsin. He worked for Warner Brothers pictures as a musician and singer. He later worked for Sunstrand Corp in LaSalle, Sheridan Correctional Center, Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mount Sterling and Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department in Rushville, until retiring due to ill health. He was a member of the Ottawa Rescue Squad and was a sergeant in the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Auxiliary.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gladfelter Funeral Home in Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Cemetery in Ottawa. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville and Gladfelter Funeral Home in Ottawa are in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may made to American Heart Association or Fresenius Kidney Care Center in Springfield.
