Frances Johnson

Frances K. Johnson, 97, of North Manchester, Ind., formerly of Astoria, died at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15, 2014, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center in North Manchester.

She was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Brantford, N.D., a daughter of William and Maude Miller Deardorff. She married Ralph W. Johnson on Oct. 18, 1936. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1998.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Lynn Dale Johnson; and three brothers.

Surviving are four sons, Vernon (and Mary Jane) Johnson of East Peoria, Alvin (and Marjorie J.) Johnson of Los Angles, Calif., Stephen (and Tammie Bowers) Johnson of North Manchester and Stan Johnson of Yucaipa, Calif.; one daughter, Alice (and Lyle) Hildebrand of Sebring, Fla.; one sister, Della Davis of North Manchester; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker, a pastor’s wife and part-time Tupperware salesperson.

She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren in North Manchester.

She graduated from Cherry Grove High School. She was involved with musical activities throughout her life, and had musical pieces published. She also taught school for a short time in Astoria.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Kevin Sager officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
