Donnie JonesDonnie M. Jones, 64, of Rushville died at 1 a.m. Feb. 19, 2014, at his home.

He was born Jan. 12, 1950, in Carbondale, a son of Ervin and Marge Hagler Jones. He first married Charlotte Thompson. He later married Darcy Read on March 11, 1996, in Virginia, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Traci (and David) Kimball of Chatham, Carrie (and Jason) Devall of Springfield and Kelli (and Raymond) Shouse of Timewell; one son, Shawn Jones of Rushville; four stepsons, Char (and Kimberly) Hawkins of Caty, Texas, Josh Hawkins and Chris Hawkins, both of Bowen, and Jeremey Hawkins of Quincy; three brothers, Gary (and Marsha) Jones of Browning, Dick (and Pat) Jones of Carterville and Bill (and Glenda) Jones of Ina; four grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one step grandson, Nathaniel Hawkins; his father, mother and stepfather, Marge and Jim Mayes; two brothers, Bob and Kenny Jones; and one sister, Shirley Pinkett.

He graduated in 1969 from Rushville High School. He then attended Spoon River College. He first worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, owned Donnie’s Car Care in Beardstown and later owned Corner Café in Rushville.

He graduated from the police academy in Champaign. He served as a police officer with Rushville, Mount Sterling and Meredosia Police departments. He served as Chief of Police for Chapin and Chief of Police for Meredosia Police. He later worked at Illinois Forestry Products in Beardstown.

Services were held Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Tom Robbins officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
