Maxine Jacobus

Maxine JacobusMaxine Jacobus, 91, of Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba, formerly of Lewistown, died at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 20, 2012, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born July 8, 1920, in Ipava, the daughter of Georgia Nolan Baumgartner Loew and Trenton Baumgartner. Her stepfather was Elmer Loew. She married Glenn Tuttle and later married Willis "Bill" Jacobus on April 15, 1950. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1999.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Sue Tuttle Downs; and one brother, Max Baumgartner.

Surviving are one daughter, Cindy Lou Jacobus Carl; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She began working as a switchboard operator for Illinois Bell, was a beautician, worked for Coleman Clinic as a receptionist/switchboard operator, a checker for D and D Red Fox, Fulton County Courthouse as a switchboard operator and served as a bailiff for Fulton County Courts.

She was on a bowling league for many years. She was a member of Ladies VFW Auxiliary.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lewistown.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Father James Fedosuk officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home.

Memorials may be made to Lewistown Carnegie Library Building Fund or St. James Episcopal Church.
