Annabelle JacobsAnnabelle Marie Jacobs, 78, of Rushville, formerly of Chatham, died at 4:30 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born March 28, 1930, in Herrick, a daughter of Willis Raymond and Mabel Marie Smith Donaldson. She married Marion C. Miller in 1949 in Springfield. He preceded her in death. She later married Farrell C. Jacobs Sr. on July 1, 1965, in Collinsville. He died Oct. 7, 2006.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Follis; and two brothers, Raymond “Bud” Donaldson and Jerry Donaldson.

Surviving are four children, Anna Marie (and Don) Shieferdecker and Lori (and Richard) Demick, both of Rushville, Pam Jacobs of Springfield and Farrell C. Jacobs Jr. of Chatham; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She graduated in 1947 from Feitchans High School in Springfield.

She worked with the Illinois Youth Commission and was instrumental in the development of four youth centers in Springfield. She also worked with Sangamon County Probation as a mentor to a large number of Sangamon County young people.

She was a Girl Scout leader for many years as well as 4-H. She held a franchise for “Velvet Freeze Ice Cream Store” for many years in Springfield.

She was a member of Sangamon County and Schuyler County farm bureaus.

She and her husband were farmers.

She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield.

Services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Brent Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
