Donald Lee Jacobus, 93, of Canton, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center in Astoria.

He was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Smithfield, a son of Earl and Mable Gardner Jacobus.

Surviving are three sisters, Mary Sarff of Pekin, Marjorie Vickers of Smithfield and Audrey Taeubner of Delevan, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

A World War II Navy veteran, he served from 1941 to 1946, including a stint on a floating dry dock off the coast of Japan repairing ships from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of American Legion Post 16.

He worked in the ford shop at International Harvester in Canton for more than 37 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 1357 and the IHC Retirees Club. He also raced horses for many years.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, where visitation will be one hour before. Rev. Layton Malone will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
