VELMA MAY (DERRY) JACOBS

Velma Jacobs

Velma May Jacobs, 75, of Galesburg, died Friday, Dec. 1, 1995, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Vermont, a daughter of Chester and Goldie Stambaugh Derry. She married William L. Jacobs on April 24, 1948, in Elmwood. He died Jan. 24, 1989. She also was preceded in death by twin sons and one grandson.

Surviving are three sons, Dale and Robert, both of Galesburg, and Terry of Knoxville; two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Beverly) Kemp of East Galesburg and Connie Clark of Galesburg; one brother, Eldon Derry of Galesburg; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Doris) Taylor of Berwick and Mrs. Cecil (Verna) Bramlett of East Galesburg; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She formerly lived in Gilson for 45 years. She worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Knoxville for 10 years and Admiral Corp. in Galesburg for 15 years. She was active with Galesburg Rescue Mission.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville with Rev. David Scholl officiating. Burial was in Haynes Cemetery in DeLong.
