VeteranStephen Johnson Dies At Age 67

Stephen “Pete” Johnson, 67, of Lewistown died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 12, 1980, at his home.

He was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Lewistown, a son of Levin and Isabel (Barnes) Johnson. He married Vivian (Sexton) Putman Aug. 31, 1947. She survives and resides at Astoria Care Center.

Also surviving are three stepsons, Lyle Putman of Houston, Tex., Jim Putman of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Bill Putman of Lewistown; seven grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Johnson Sr. of Lewistown and four sisters, Mrs. Florence Walters of Tigard, Ore., Mrs. Helen Earl of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Alice Stinston of Peoria Heights and Mrs. Celesta Whetstine of Canton.

One stepson, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Johnson had been employed as a wire assembler at Caterpillar Tractor Co. before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. David Hurley officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
