Richard Johnson Dies Yesterday

Richard E. (Dick) Johnson, 70, died Tuesday evening in the Culbertson Memorial hospital in Rushville, following a brief illness. Born Feb. 22, 1890, in Banner township, a son of Lewis and Sarah Lingenfelter Johnson, he was married on Dec. 31, 1915 to Louise Bell Whites who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Merlin, of Canton, two grandchildren, Beverly and Darlene, a sister, Mrs. Nellie Pollitt of Lewistown and several nieces and nephews. One granddaughter and a half brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Browning Christian church and the Modern Woodmen of America, Camp 295. A farmer his entire life, he purchased a farm on Rural Route 1 in 1950 where he resided at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Astoria Christian church. the Rev. James Shirley and Rev. Donald Bottens will officiate. Burial will be in the Astoria cemetery.

Friends may call at the Shawgo Memorial Home after 10 a.m. Thursday until noon Friday, then at the church until time of services.
