Young Mother Dies Of Polio In Havana

Mrs. Christine M. Johnson, 22, of Havana, mother of two children, died Friday morning at St. John’s hospital in Springfield where she had been taken Wednesday from her home in that city. Polio was listed as the cause of death.

Born July 2, 1928, in Easton, Mason county, she was a daughter of Cecil and Dorothy Nichols Downs and married Murray Johnson. She was affiliated with the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Alpha Rho chapter of Havana.

Surviving besides her husband, are her parents of Dayton, O.; two children, Judy Diane and Murray Ken Johnson, both at home; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Louise Cave of Havana.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Havana with the Rev. J. J. Griffin officiating. Burial in Laurel Hill cemetery.
