David “Jack” Hughes, 88, of Bushnell, Fla., formerly of Astoria, died March 30, 2016, at Osprey Point Nursing Center in Bushnell, Fla.

He was born March 23, 1928, in Astoria, a son of George and Grace Stambaugh Hughes. He married Dorothy Ostein in June of 1957 in Florida. She preceded him in death.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Kolleck; and one sister, Geneva Howard.

Surviving are one daughter, Jackie Powers of Godfrey; two stepsons, Ben Kelly of Jefferson, Ga., and John Ostein of Bradenton, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Jean Ostein of Maryland; one brother, George (and Doris) Hughes of Astoria; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was a brick mason.

He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1950-56.

Graveside service was held Saturday at Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion. Chaplin Robert Spencer officiated. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
