Helen L. Hammes, 79, of Jacksonville died Jan. 23, 2014, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 21, 1934, in Kinmundy, a daughter of Forrest and Vera Keller Doolen. She married George F. Hammes. He preceded her in death.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Catherine Hammes; and one brother, George Doolen.
Surviving are three children, John (and Dana) Hammes of Mattoon, Karen (and Monte) Gilson of Browning and Cathleen (and Rodney) Marr of Jacksonville; two sisters, Frances Shike of Highland, Ind., and Aileen Miller of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was employed at Bohn Heat Transfer in Beardstown from 1972-89 and later worked for John Deere Life Insurance Company in Jacksonville until her retirement.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hammond, Ind.
Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville where the family will meet friends from 5 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services. Graveside committal services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy.
