Jerry HigginsJerry "J.J." Higgins, 70, of Lewistown died at 12:42 p.m. Aug. 17, 2013, at Graham Hospital Emergency Room in Canton.

He was born Aug. 18, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wis., a son of Joseph G. and Eleanor Sroka Higgins. He married Susie Nebergall on July 3, 1978, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Kirk J. Higgins of New Berlin, Wis., Kim L. (and Gary) Christopherson of Mukwonago, Wis., Traci (and Jeff) Miller of Lewistown, Kelly A. (and Shawn) Thorson of Mukwonago, Wis., and Travis (and Lana) Koontz of Lizton, Ind.; two brothers, Pat (and Eunice) Higgins of Muskego, Wis., and Joe (and Janet) Higgins Jr. of Oconomowoc, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was a Local 8 Union Iron Worker. He also worked for MCI for over 22 years. He loved tower work. He also was a civil engineer. After retirement, he worked at Canton Ready Mix for five years.

He served his country in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown and a lifetime member of NRA.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Danie deBeer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with a military service by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home.
