Gladys HerrickGladys Evelyn (Morse) Herrick, 84, of Elmwood died at 3:06 a.m. Aug. 23, 2012, at her home.

She was born May 28, 1928, in rural Middlegrove, a daughter of James and Blanche Dykeman Morse. She married Ghlee F. Herrick in 1946. They divorced in 1972. He survives. She then married Leland Long of Winfield, Iowa, in 1972. He preceded her in death. She later married Wesley Herrick in 1996 in Roanoke. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Herrick; three brothers; and six sisters.

Surviving are eight children, David (and Debbie) Herrick of Smithfield, Linda (Herrick) Payne of Salina, Kan., Gale (and Betty) Herrick of Cuba, Dennis Herrick of Ozona, Fla., Wanda Herrick of Elmwood, with whom she made her home, Richard (and Karen) Herrick of Winfield, Iowa, Marsha Herrick of Canton and J.R. (and Teresa) Herrick of Cedarville, Ga.; three stepsons, Tom (and Jean) Herrick of Metamora, Steve (and Jackie) Herrick of Victoria and Bill (and Sue) Herrick of Norris; two sisters, Monna (and Bub) Mulenthaler of Ankeny, Iowa, and Donna (and Merle) Doubet of Wickenburg, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She went back to school and received her LPN license in 1977 from Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa. She worked as a nurse until her retirement in 1990.

Services were held Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend Fred Gebbink officiating. Burial was in Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.
