Helen HicksHelen L. Hicks, 98, of Lewistown died at 6:03 a.m. July 9, 2012, at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

She was born March 28, 1914, in Lynnville, a daughter of Ednie Alex and Edith Gordon Ranson. She first married Karl Zempel on March 26, 1937, in Lewistown. She later married Leon Hicks on Jan. 26, 1974, in Lewistown. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

Surviving are five children, Rob Roy Zempel and Karl Roderick Zempel, both of Lewistown, Zoe Ann (and Norman) White of Forest City, Mary Alice (and Jim) Palmer of Chaplin, Minn., and Dan (and Maureen) Hicks of Ellijay, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She worked as a clerk at Zempels store for a number of years then as produce manager for Day and Palin Grocery Store.

She was a 70-year member of First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown where in her younger days she served as a Sunday school teacher.

She also was a 4-H Leader, and was an active member of Home Extension for 28 years in Lewistown and Indiana.

Services were held Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Danie deBeer officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
