Earl HerrickEarl H. Herrick, 84, of Lewistown died at 4:45 p.m. April 8, 2012, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born June 21, 1927, in rural Smithfield, a son of Reuben and Catherine O. Orwig Herrick. He married Mary Lou Morgan on July 28, 1947, in Lewistown.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou of Lewistown; one son, Danny L. (and Kathy) Herrick of Canton; five daughters, Sharon (and Rudy) Tompkins, Bonnie (and David) Howerter and Sandra (and Allen) Harper, all of Lewistown, Vickie (and Stephen) Churchill of Cuba and Nancy Herrick of Canton; one brother, Ghlee Herrick of Smithfield; two sisters, Frances Shaw of Bement and Alta (and Henry) Shaner of Galesburg; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Wesley and Glen; and two sisters, Elna (and Jesse) Carver and Mabel (and William "Pat") Bobo.

He worked as a burner operator and later as inspector for Caterpillar in East Peoria for 30 years, retiring in July of 1982.

He served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Japan from 1946-47.

He was a member of UAW Local 974 and Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend Kevin Kessler officiating. Burial will be in Fiatt Cemetery with military services conducted by Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home.
