He was born July 10, 1926, in Schuyler County, a son of Joe W. and Ruth J. Tyree Hanning. He married Mary Joan Ward on Sept. 18, 1948, in Rushville. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (and Rev. James) Hood of Concord, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Hanning; one brother, Glen Hanning; and four sisters, Erma Icenogle, Hazel Hanning, Fern Moore and Anna Mae Floyd.
He worked at Bartlow Brothers in Rushville for 16 years, Culbertson Memorial Hospital for four years and Schuyler County Sheriff's Office for four years. He was a carpenter for many years.
Services will held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
