William HellyerWilliam R. Hellyer, 81, of Lewistown died at 6:35 a.m. June 6, 2011, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born July 15, 1929, in Ipava, a son of Rev. Ross K. and Esther Holmes Hellyer. He married Charlene Martin on May 11, 1980, in Alton. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Bill (and Diana) Hellyer of Wheeling; five daughters, Kim Larrimore of Tucson, Ariz., Marti DeLanoy of Spring City, Pa., Kelli (and Terry) Perardi of Denver, Colo., Traci (and Don) Nelson of Naperville and Terri Hellyer of Bryant; two sisters, Donna Finley of Georgetown and Jodi (and Ken) Windle of Flora.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Hellyer; and one sister, Betty Grigsby.

He was a school teacher at Lewistown High School where he also was a coach and a bus driver before retiring.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown.

His body will be donated to Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at his church with Reverend Ray Greenfield officiating. Military rites will be accorded after the service by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will follow the service from 5-7 p.m. at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown.
