CHARLES RAYMOND “PETE” HAZZARD

Charles "Pete" Raymond Hazzard, 97, of Lewistown died at 2:10 p.m. April 20, 2011, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.

He was born April 15, 1914, in Lewistown, a son of Charlie and Ane Kathinka Rasmussen Hazzard. He married Ruby Irwin on Aug. 23, 1943, in Pamona, Calif. She preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 2009.

Surviving are three sons, Charles (and Karen) Hazzard of Girard and Robert (and Beth) Hazzard and Richard (and Nicki) Hazzard, both of Lewistown; one daughter, Christie (and Jack) Meldrum of Highland Ranch, Colo.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred and Mary Hazzard and Bodil Kerr; two brothers, Frank and Lawrence Hazzard; and one grandson, Nathan Edward Hazzard.

He was a 1932 graduate of Lewistown High School. Out of high school he worked for Jack Bath at Bath Brothers Clothing Store and at Weirauch's Greenhouse.

He served his country as a 1st Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1942-45.

He was a farmer.

He was a rural mail carrier for 31 years before retiring.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1.

Services were held Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with David Irwin officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
