VERNICE (STEPHENSON) HENDRIX

Vernice Hendrix

Vernice Hendrix, 101, of Carthage, formerly of Huntsville, died at 10:28 p.m. March 23, 2011, at Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

She was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Riger, Mo., a daughter of Walter Franklin and Elizabeth McCully Stephenson. She married Russell Hendrix on Nov. 13, 1946, in Lewistown. He preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1988.

She also was preceded in death by one son, John; two brothers, Louis Stephenson and Walter L. Stephenson; and one sister, Anona Doerschag.

Surviving are one stepson, Richard (and Sandra) Hendrix of Colfax, N.C.; four step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was a graduate of Browning, Mo., High School and a 1941 graduate of North Central Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minn.

She entered Evangelistic work for Assembly of God Church, taught school in a one-room schoolhouse west of Camden and also sold Avon in her retirement years.

She was active in Assembly of God Church in Camden and later at Assembly of God Church in Augusta.

Services were held Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverends Jerry and Patsy Pratt officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
