Norman G. Hawkins, 66, of Osage Beach, Mo., died Sept. 19, 2010, at his residence.

He was born July 5, 1944, in Canton, the son of Melvin and Virginia Clanin Hawkins. He married Connie Gregory on July 15, 1967, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Charles Russell (and Maria) Hawkins of Wentzville, Mo.; one daughter, Deidre Anne (and Patrick) Curley of Osage Beach; his mother, Virginia Nelson of Osage Beach; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Hawkins.

He served in the United States Army, earning a Purple Heart medal in the Vietnam War.

He was a farmer by trade, working in both agriculture and livestock farming. He also worked in over-the-road trucking.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge and American Legion, both of Ipava; a member of VFW in Lewistown; and Elks Club of Osage Beach. He was president of Mid-MO Pure Power Tractor Club.

Services were held Sept. 21 at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Osage Beach. Graveside services were held Sept. 22 with military honors at Ipava Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Osage Beach Elks Christmas Basket Fund or American Legion Post #17 of Ipava.
