Betty Hackett

Betty L. Hackett, 85, of Canton, formerly of Cuba, died at 9:25 a.m. Aug. 29, 2010, at Red Oak Estates.

She was born April 7, 1925, in Cuba, a daughter of Leonard and Flossie Ford Johnson. She married Raymond “Tim” Hackett on May 1, 1946, in Macomb. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Roselyn (and Burton) Clark of St. David; two sons, Harold (and Cherylene) Brazec of East Peoria and Tim (and Mary) Hackett of rural Cuba; one sister, Francis Johnson of Kings, N.C.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, one granddaughter, two brothers and one sister.

She was a 1943 graduate of Cuba High School.

She had co-owned the former Cloak Room dress shop in Canton and managed the Cuba Branch of the Senior Center for Meals On Wheels.

She was a member of Cuba Christian Church, Royal Neighbors of America, Eastern Star Lodge and a 60-year member of Cuba American Legion Auxiliary.

Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba.

Memorials may be made to Harbor Lights Hospice, Red Oak Estates or Cuba American Legion Auxiliary.
