James HarpJames M. Harp, 91, formerly of Canton and Smithfield, died at 4:40 p.m. Aug. 10, 2010, at Clayberg Nursing Home.

He was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Haynes, Ark., a son of Charles H. and Mollie M. Wilson Harp. He married Florence F. Ferguson on Dec. 24, 1946, in Little Rock, Ark. She died April 17, 2004.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Margaret (and Donald) Hall of Smithfield; one sister, Dorothy Sinclair of Lowell, Ark.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a recipient of two Bronze Stars.

He worked 30 years at Canton Works of International Harvester retiring in 1975.

Services were held Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in rural Canton with military rites conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1.
