Irene Hood

Irene HoodIrene P. Hood, 85, of Frederick died at 12:49 p.m. Dec. 14, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Peoria County, Illinois, a daughter of Sidney and Carrie Archdale Pack. She married Lewis Edward Hood on Sept. 3, 1949, in Rock Island, Ill. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1967.

She also was preceded in death by one infant sister, Marjorie Pack.
Surviving are one son, Richard Hood of Galesburg; one daughter, Elaine Cromwell of Frederick; one brother, Raymond Pack of Elmwood; one sister, Marguerite Metz of Elmwood; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She first worked as a secretary for the Corps of Engineers in Peoria. After her marriage, she was a secretary for Knights of Columbus and Beardstown Bowl, both in Beardstown. She later worked for over 20 years for Schuyler Laboratories in Rushville and retired from Kelly Services, where she worked for Illinois Environment Protection Agency in Springfield.

She was a member of Rainbow Garden Club in Rushville, was past president and member of Board of Morgan County Garden Club, a master gardener with University of Illinois Extension Service, Schuyler County Home Extension where she volunteered with the Rushville, Beardstown, Virginia and Jacksonville Community Garden, Rushville Audubon Society and volunteered with RSVP.

She raised Jack Russell Terriers and was a member of the United Jack Russell Association. She also participated in the Senior Olympics, where she won a Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in bowling and bowled on the Wednesday afternoon Bowling League in Rushville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Steve Pichaske officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
