RUBY P. (IRWIN) HAZZARD

Ruby Hazzard

Ruby P. Hazzard, 95, of Lewistown died at 1:48 p.m. Aug. 16, 2009, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

She was born Sept. 29, 1913, in Waterford Township, Fulton County, a daughter of William and Minnie Dickson Irwin. She married Charles “Pete” Hazzard on Aug. 23, 1943, in Pamona, Calif. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Charles (and Karen) Hazzard of Girard, Robert (and Beth) Hazzard of Springfield, Ohio, and Richard (and Nicki) Hazzard of Lewistown; one daughter, Christie (and Jack) Meldrum of Highland Ranch, Colo.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

She was a 1932 graduate of Lewistown High School, and a 1934 graduate of Western Illinois State Teachers College. She was a school teacher for 25 years before retiring on May 29, 1974. She had taught at Prichard-Clark School, and 10 years at Summum and Astoria schools.

She was a member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Danie deBeer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.

Memorials may be made to her church or Mason District Hospital in Havana.
