Rev. S. F. HickeRev. S. F. Hicke, 90, of Apopka, Fla., formerly of Astoria, died at 5 p.m. Feb. 13, 2009, at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs, Fla.

He was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Bancroft, S.D., a son of Frank and Alma Knudsen Hicke. He married Beverly Semlar on July 30, 1938, in Waukon, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 14, 1979. He then married Jean Johnson on April 19, 1981, in Smithfield. She survives.

Also surviving are six sons, David (and June) Hicke of Glasford, Rev. Timothy (and Marilyn) Hicke of Port Neches, Texas, Thomas (and Lila) Hicke of Ottawa, Alan Hicke of Cleveland, Tenn., Rev. Joel (and Cathy) Hicke of Rockford and Don (and special friend Shonnette) Hicke of East Ridge, Tenn.; two daughters, Nancy (and William) Pilger of Ipava and Judith (and Doug) Rugg of New Port Richey, Fla.; four stepsons, Rev. Steven (and Pamela) Johnson of Hagerstown, Md., William (and Susan) Johnson of Altamont, Fla., Daniel (and Jan) Johnson of Charlotte, N.C., and Kevin (and Angeles) Johnson of Apopka, Fla.; one brother, Wallace Hicke of Sacramento, Calif.; 38 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray; three sisters, Lucille, Delores and Ione; and one granddaughter, Cindi Lou Hicke.

He attended Olivet Nazarene University. He was an ordained minister of Church of the Nazarene for 62 years, pastoring in Mercer, Wis., Superior, Wis., Baraboo, Wis., Astoria, Dwight, Braidwood and Smithfield, and was an associate pastor in Joliet.

He was a member of Church of the Nazarene.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Smithfield Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Layton Malone officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery in Smithfield.
