Betty HermonBetty L. Hermon, 89, of Rushville died at 8:55 a.m. Jan. 31, 2009, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Woodstock Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Dwight and Minnie Illman Persinger. She married Joe Hermon on April 20, 1958, in Rushville. He died Jan. 12, 2006.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Strong.

Surviving are one sister, Lucille Moody of Nashville, Tenn.; three nieces, Christie Cox, Mary Sue Merritt and Jean Lane, all of Rushville; and one nephew, Rick Moody of Franklin, Tenn.

She graduated from Rushville High School and Gem City Business College in Quincy.

She was office manager at Schuyler-Brown FS from 1943 to 1982. After retirement, she continued working there part-time until 2008.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rushville, Goodwill Sunday school class, Wesley Ann Circle and served on the official church board for over 40 years.

She and her husband researched a history of the church, then wrote articles for the monthly newsletter. When that was completed, she continued to write monthly articles for News From the Pews.

She also was a member of Rushville Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Services were held Tuesday at her church with Rev. Steve Pichaske officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
