David J. Helle, 74, of Avon died at 1:29 a.m. Oct. 20, 2008, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.
He was born July 22, 1934, in Canton, a son of Lloyd and Opal Behymer Helle. He married Shirley Cleer on April 7, 1956, in Fiatt. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Cynthia (and Bill) Hand of Astoria, David L. (and Janeen) Helle of Rockford, Mich., and Ramona (and Robert) Jacobson of Avon; two sisters, Neva Powell of Canton and Barbara Lou Manock of Avon; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
He was a sawyer for 50 years. He was a member of Fiatt Independent Christian Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at his church with Rev. Jim Menne officiating. Burial will be in Sinnett Chapel Cemetery in rural Cuba. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at his church. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is in charge of arrangements.
