Peggy HigginsPeggy L. Higgins, 85, of Lewistown died at 1:08 p.m. Feb. 12, 2008, at Havana Healthcare Center.

She was born March 1, 1922, in Canton, the daughter of Jacob and Editha Essex Ketcham. At age 4, her mother passed away and she was raised by her stepmother Opal Barnes Ketcham. She married Harold G. Higgins on July 21, 1941, in Bowling Green, Mo. He died Nov. 28, 2007.

Surviving are one son, Jim (and Mary) Higgins of Manhattan, Kan.; one daughter, Karen (and Larry) Shonkwiler of Gridley; two brothers, John (and Charlene) Ketcham of Lewistown and Doyle (and Margaret) Ketcham of Masonic Home, Ky.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was an employee of the Fulton County ASCS Office for 30 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown and Lewistown Historical Society. In 2002, Peggy and her husband were selected for the outstanding LCHS alumni award.

Services were held Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Ray Greenfield officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.

Memorials may be made to the Shrine Hospital for children or to her church.
