Joe HermonJoseph George “Joe” Hermon, 86, of Rushville died at 8:25 a.m. Jan. 12, 2007, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

He was born June 28, 1920, in Springfield, a son of Edward and Julia Williams Hermon. He married Betty Persinger on April 20, 1958, in Rushville. She survives.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II from Nov. 13, 1941, to Sept. 28, 1945, and participating in the Aleutian Island, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.

He worked at Allis-Chalmers in Springfield from 1945 till 1982, retiring as a foreman.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rushville and the Goodwill Sunday school class and was Sunday school superintendent for several years. He also was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4. He volunteered as a driver’s license instructor for senior citizens.

Services were held Sunday at his church with Revs. Paul and Mary Arnold officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
