WALLACE N. HAMMOND

Wallace N. Hammond, 78, of Havana died at 8:45 a.m. July 4, 2006, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center in Astoria.

He was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Vermont, a son of William N. and Nelda Lucille Wrestler Hammond. He married Rosalie Parr. He later married Violet Beaty.

Surviving are four daughters, Marilyn (and Michael) Shawgo of Astoria, Janet (and Monte) Graham of Havana, Angela Hammond and Brenda Gossage; one son, Randy (and Lori) of Bath; one brother, William R. (and Norma) of Pekin; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Wallace Kevin Hammond.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in Guam.

He was a laborer at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria.

Services were held Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery with military rites accorded by Astoria American Legion Post #25.
